Do you find yourself dealing with conflicting feelings regarding success? The urge to be seen, heard – acknowledged for your accomplishments. And at the same time, paradoxically, the fear of being seen and heard – acknowledged for your accomplishments, as well as it not happening!
Old wounds being triggered. So much desire, shame & fear…
And maybe you genuinely do not feel ready and prepared enough yet for success, but instead of shying away from the bull’s eye, ask yourself what exactly would help you feel more prepared? What kind of support, knowledge or skills do you need? And take a moment to consider what specifically will improve for you by achieving this goal?
It’s crucial to not lose sight of why we want to accomplish our goals, especially when they require longer term persistence. Be aware. Keep making time to check in with yourself: Remind yourself of want you want and need on a regular basis from a “present” perspective but stay flexible and open-minded. We’re constantly evolving, as are our needs.
Don’t be afraid to reassess and reprioritise accordingly. After all, the only person you’ll disappoint by pursuing the wrong goals is You! Focus on what you DO want and the prospect of working towards those goals will have meaning and appeal and will gradually prove less daunting. That fear of success will shrink.
If it’s scary considering the concept of big success, think about all the smaller successes you’ve had so far – on the way to your larger goal. Notice how those successes make you feel. No doubt great! And so you should! You’re allowed to feel warm inside, motivated to accomplish more. To feel proud of your successes. You earned them. You deserve them.
Remember too that no success is too big or too small! It might be as simple as changing something seemingly trivial in your daily life that makes you feel good – so good in fact that it helps fast-track you to the bigger goals in your life. So, don’t underestimate the power of improving those basics, from getting more sleep to eating foods that truly energise you.
Last but definitely not least, if you’re surrounded by people who put you down or hold you back, you really need to consider whether they have your best interests at heart. Whether personal or professional. If your “friends” are putting you off striving for successes that you desire, you may need to question whether you’re involved with the right people.
Are you really frightened of success or scared of losing those around you if you succeed?
Give yourself permission to build a community that shares your growth mindset and wants to develop with you. There’s no shame in success. But it would be a massive shame to avoid everything you are capable of achieving and richly deserve due to negative influences or unfounded beliefs and fears.
